MemoryHoleBlog Silenced By BlueHost and WordPress/Automattic

James Tracy
MemoryHoleBlog

MemoryHoleBlog.com, which has been housed at WordPress.com since March 2012, moved to BlueHost in September 2016. Because of numerous alleged “copyright infringement” and “terms of service” violation censorshipclaims by a certain party, the website has been asked to pack its bags and move out by BlueHost’s legal department. This is despite that fact that MHB complied with each and every one of BlueHost’s numerous requests to censor content between September and November 2016.

Hello,

Due to multiple violations of our Terms of Service, (http://www.bluehost.com/terms_of_service.html,) we must ask that you, please seek an alternative hosting provider. You have CPanel & FTP access to your account so you may backup your files & transfer your domains as needed.

You are required to move to a new hosting provider by 11/23/2016 at which time the hosting account will be deactivated.

When you have found another hosting provider, please make the necessary changes to your DNS and transfer your registration.

Once you have transferred to a new hosting provider, please contact our billing department to cancel your account and receive a prorated refund.

Please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

As many know Bluehost’s action (perhaps) coincided with a smear campaign that named MHB as one of 200 websites that are purportedly propaganda arms for the Russian government.

Shortly thereafter when MHB sought to return to WordPress.com as a host WordPress also shut its doors and refused to host the blog based on alleged “terms of service violations,” which WordPress staff refused to elaborate on. When we made arrangements to move the site and request specifics on the alleged violations WordPress staff demanded that we turn MemoryHoleBlog to “Private” mode while we transferred the domain.

Thanks for confirming. You may follow the steps outlined here to transfer your custom domain name to a new registrar:

Please note that your blog will be re-suspended shortly, so you’ll want to act as soon as possible.

Best,

Francis

Shortly thereafter the entire list of 6,000+ email subscribers was deleted and likely not recoverable.

Fortunately MHB’s files have been backed up and we now have a truly independent host. We are presently in the process of transferring our domain, yet even this has involved an unusually long wait.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of MHB.

Sincerely,

James Tracy
